The International Frank Zappa Tournament of
Songs
the March Madness FZ Style files
Welcome to the 1999 International Frank Zappa Tournament of
Songs (IFZTS, for short). After polling the international Frank Zappa fandom electorate-
on AFFZ, RMFZ, and my internet site- I compiled a list of 64 Frank Zappa compositions and
seeded them according to the replies I received. After the initial seeding, the songs were
then randomly assigned a conference and readied for competition.
On this web page, I will post the pairings
in each round, a tally of votes in each round, and various pointless and random
observations and statistics I may note about each round.
ROUND ONE final statistics are below.
WESTERN CONFERENCE @ FILLMORE WEST, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
The only races which were close
were between Jesus/Torture and Zomby/Baltimore. Both contests were decided in the very
last hour of this round.
SCANDINAVIAN CONFERENCE @ KONSERTHUSET, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Drowning/Muffin and Echidna's/Yo Mama were the only close races, with both being decided
on the last day of voting.
EASTERN CONFERENCE @ THE GARRICK THEATER, NYC, NY
The only close race was between
Punky's and Brain Police, decided on the final day of voting.
Guitar/Sharleena and Cruisin/City were the two closest races of round one. Both of them
literally exchanged votes one-for-one until the final day.
ROUND TWO final statistics are below.

None of these were as close as the
scores reflect. The winners all got off to early leads and held them. Two big upsets in
one conference.
